The Death Clearance Manual is effective January 1, for deaths occurring in This manual takes precedence over any previously published death clearance document. It contains minimum requirements that all registries must complete for the death clearance process. Best practices are provided for each minimum requirement. Death Clearance is the process of linking death certificate records with the registry database in order to determine all deaths among registrants and to identify deaths from cancer among persons previously unknown to the regist ry. The Death Clearance Summary Report lists all reportable death certificate records that are not linked to a CTC. Use this report to monitor death certificate records which require processing. The report shows the status of the record in terms of its location in the workflow and AFLs.


The death certificate provides important information about the decedent (e.g., age, sex, race and ethnicity, education, date of death, names of parents, and, if married, name of spouse), the circumstances and cause of death, and final disposition.
